Construction Gantt vs a spreadsheet
A spreadsheet works. Excel’s WORKDAY function with a list of NSW public holidays will calculate finish dates, and our free Excel program template sets that up for you. Where it gets hard is on site: re-typing dates when the slab is delayed, attaching photos, and getting the latest version to the trades. Construction Gantt moves every linked task when one date changes, keeps the photos against the task and shares one live program with the team.
Construction Gantt vs Buildxact
Buildxact leads with estimating: takeoffs, quote letters and supplier integration on every plan, with job management and schedules on Pro ($399/month ex GST) and above. If you need estimates and quotes in the same system as the schedule, Buildxact is built for that. If your estimating is already sorted and you want the program and site diary on your phone, Construction Gantt costs much less but doesn’t estimate.
Construction Gantt vs Tradify
Tradify is job management for trade businesses, priced per user: scheduling, quoting, invoicing and accounting sync from the Lite plan. It suits service and trade jobs where invoicing is the centre of the work. Construction Gantt is narrower and built around a staged construction program with linked tasks, inspections and a site diary.
Construction Gantt vs Buildertrend and Procore
Both are large platforms that cover far more than scheduling and are sold by custom quote. Buildertrend says it is built for builders who oversee 5+ projects a year or handle complex, multi-phase builds. Procore prices by annual construction volume and serves head contractors, subcontractors and owners. For a small builder who mainly needs a program and a site record, either may be more than you need. For a growing builder who wants one system for sales, finance and the site, they are worth a demo.
How to choose
- Program and site diary on your phone, low cost: Construction Gantt, or a spreadsheet if you are happy to update it by hand.
- Estimating and quoting first: an estimating-led tool such as Buildxact.
- Trade crew, jobs and invoicing: job management software such as Tradify.
- One platform for the whole business: Buildertrend (residential) or Procore (commercial).
Whatever you pick, trial it on a real job for a week before committing.
FAQ
What is the cheapest way to do a construction Gantt chart?
A spreadsheet is free if you already have Excel or Google Sheets, and our free NSW Builder Admin Pack includes an Excel program template. Among the apps compared here, Construction Gantt has the lowest published price, from A$2.99 a month on the Australian App Store, but it does not do estimating or invoicing.
Is Construction Gantt a replacement for Buildxact or Buildertrend?
Not for everything. Buildxact and Buildertrend include estimating and job costing that Construction Gantt does not. Construction Gantt focuses on the program, the site diary and the team on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Some builders use a scheduling app alongside their estimating or accounting software.
Which is best for a small residential builder in NSW?
It depends on what hurts most. If quoting and estimating take your nights, look at an estimating-led tool. If you need job management and invoicing for a trade crew, look at job management software. If the problem is keeping the program and site record up to date on your phone, a Gantt app is the simplest place to start. Try the free trials with a real job before you commit.
